During many years Amandus VanQuaille was team leader of a DFG (German Research Council) research project in Ladakh and Zanskar (Himalayas in the North of India), studying Buddhist monasteries and human settlements in the West-Himalayas. During those studies, he became acquainted with the nomadic Tibetan architecture and life style. He started dreaming about making ‘tent structures’ adopted to the western world life style.
On from 2000, architect Amandus VanQuaille started his own design studio called ‘The Nomad Concept’. From the beginning he concentrated on sustainable tensile or membrane architecture.
Amandus VanQuaille won many awards, including twice the prestigious ‘International Design Awards’.
The Nomad Concept not only creates custom made architecture, but also developed many standard design objects relating to the knowledge of membrane technology. In this regard he collaborated with the firm Solspiration. This collaboration culminated in the Red Dot Award in 2022 ; ‘Best of the Best’ for the category ‘outdoor products and light’ with their product ‘Hulasol’,
Our mission is focused on technically complex and beautiful projects in tensile architecture for leading organizations and private clients. We design environments to attract, inspire, enable and to retain the best and brightest. You may ask us everything, but mediocrity.
As a full-service firm, The Nomad Concept is present on projects from start to finish, ensuring that the ideas conceived in the beginning with clients are manifest at the end. We achieve this through close collaboration with all members of the project team, including consultants, contractors, trades and artisans.
